Devil's Gate History Club
begins 11th year

Program 2005-2006

The primary purpose of the Devil's Gate History Club is to provide a forum for those interested in learning more about the history of the Georgetown-Silver Plume area and the relationship of that history to the local culture, economy, and environment, all within the broader context of the development of the Rocky Mountain West. Participants seek to advance understanding of the area's history through research and discussion of historical topics, and by documenting and presenting findings.

The club is sponsored by Historic Georgetown, Inc. (HGI), but the club has no formal memberships and no dues-all meetings are open to the public, and any student or adult interested in the subject is invited to participate, whether or not they are members of HGI. Voluntary donations are accepted at each meeting to help cover expenses. An audio recording is made of each presentation; the tapes are on file at HGI and may be checked out by interested persons.
The club usually meets on the third Friday of each month from September through May, except that no meeting is held in December. Most meetings are held in the Georgetown Community Center, beginning at 7:00 p.m. The April meeting is held in the Georgetown Masonic Hall, with its special gas-lit ambiance, and the presentation is by a noted outside speaker. The May meeting is a field trip to a nearby place of historic interest.

The following is this year's schedule of topics. Prior to each meeting, announcements are posted at various locations in Georgetown and Silver Plume and on HGI's web site, and they are published for several weeks ahead in the "Currents" section of the Clear Creek Courant. Those interested in attending should check these sources for details and any updates, including exact titles.
