August ground-breaking to launch
1st stage of Hamill Park construction

by Deirdre Baldwin

Hamill Park is no longer merely a dream. The Management Board hired the landscape architectural firm, Mundus-Bishop Design, to develop specifications and drawings so the preparation of the park can begin this fall. To date HGI has raised over $226,000 for the park. This figure includes a very generous grant of $20,000 from the Colorado Garden Show, Inc., which was awarded in June.

The Hamill Park committee has been meeting with Tina Bishop and Pat Mundus to discuss the process of developing the park with the available
funds; some of the features will be completed at a later date. The target date for excavating is early September, with a completion of the garden layout in late fall. Plantings will begin next spring.

The park¹s ground-breaking will be held at 4:00 p.m. on August 24. HGI will be celebrating William A. Hamill¹s birthday on that date from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. It will be a free day at the house and there will be a cake and other food and drink available. Please plan to come by the house, toast Mr. Hamill¹s birthday, and witness the ground-breaking. We hope to have many friends and dignitaries there to celebrate this wonderful event. There is still plenty of opportunity to make donations for a particular garden feature or a brick. Please call the office for more information.
