The Georgetown-Silver Plume National Historic Landmark District and surrounding open spaces offer unique hiking, biking, camping, fishing, and skiing opportunities all within the context of early western mining history. If you have spent time on Guanella Pass or other open lands around the Landmark District, you have probably crossed HGI lands. We've conserved these lands just for this type of public recreation. Historic Georgetown is a devoted steward of the conservations and preservation of Georgetown's natural and cultural heritage:

  • conservation of our open spaces, viewsheds, watersheds, and wildlife,
  • protection from interstate highway infringement and its byproducts: noise and air pollution,
  • preservation of the historic places, stories, and people that matter to us, and
  • protection from suburban sprawl.

With over 1,100 acres of open lands donated over the past 43 years, Historic Georgetown is extremely interested in the development of public trail systems and the protection of our open lands and mining heritage.

Historic Georgetown works with the Historic Public Lands Commission (HDPLC) to manage open lands in the Georgetown-Silver Plume National Historic Landmark District and Clear Creek County.
